कैप्टन राधाकृष्णन हर्षन नायर का जन्म त्रिवेंद्रम, केरल के मन्नकड़ क्षेत्र में हुआ था। बचपन से ही उनके भीतर साहस और देशभक्ति की भावना कूट-कूट कर भरी थी। सैनिक स्कूल में पढ़ाई के दौरान उन्होंने सर्वश्रेष्ठ कैडेट का सम्मान हासिल किया और खेलों में भी हमेशा अव्वल रहे। राष्ट्रीय रक्षा अकादमी (NDA) और भारतीय सैन्य अकादमी (IMA) से प्रशिक्षण प्राप्त करने के बाद, वे 2002 में भारतीय सेना की 2 पैरा बटालियन में लेफ्टिनेंट बने।
कश्मीर के कुपवाड़ा जिले में तैनाती के दौरान, कैप्टन हर्षन ने आतंकवाद के खिलाफ कई अभियानों में हिस्सा लिया। 7 मार्च 2007 को उन्होंने अकेले ही दो आतंकवादियों को ढेर किया। इसके बाद, 20 मार्च 2007 को लोलाब घाटी में एक भीषण मुठभेड़ में चार आतंकवादियों से भिड़ गए। गंभीर रूप से घायल होने के बावजूद, उन्होंने दो आतंकियों को मार गिराया और तीसरे को हथगोले से घायल किया। इस मुठभेड़ में वे वीरगति को प्राप्त हुए, लेकिन उनके बलिदान ने राष्ट्र की सुरक्षा को सुनिश्चित किया।
उनके अदम्य साहस और सर्वोच्च बलिदान के लिए उन्हें मरणोपरांत अशोक चक्र से सम्मानित किया गया। आज, बलिदान दिवस पर हम “लोलाब के शेर” को नमन करते हैं।

Captain Radhakrishnan Harshan Nair “Lion of Lolab”

Captain Radhakrishnan Harshan Nair was born in Mannakad, Trivandrum, Kerala, to Shri Radhakrishnan Nair and Smt. G.C. Chitrambika. From a young age, he displayed remarkable courage and patriotism. During his time at Sainik School, Kazhakootam, he earned the title of Best Cadet and excelled in sports. After secretly appearing for the NDA entrance exam and succeeding, he completed his training at the National Defence Academy (NDA) and Indian Military Academy (IMA).
Commissioned as a Lieutenant in the 2 Para Battalion in 2002, he underwent training in Kashmir and even traveled to Israel for specialized weapons training. In 2006, his battalion was deployed to Kupwara, Kashmir, an area plagued by terrorism. On March 7, 2007, he single-handedly eliminated two terrorists during a patrol. Later, on March 20, 2007, in a fierce encounter in Lolab Valley, he faced four terrorists. Despite being gravely injured, he killed two and wounded a third with a grenade before attaining martyrdom.
For his extraordinary bravery and ultimate sacrifice, Captain Harshan was posthumously awarded the Ashok Chakra. On this Sacrifice Day, we salute the “Lion of Lolab” for his unwavering dedication to the nation.
