लांस नायक भवन सिंह उत्तराखंड के पिथौरागढ़ जिले की बेरीनाग तहसील के सिमायल गांव के निवासी थे। वे भारतीय सेना की प्रतिष्ठित पैराशूट रेजिमेंट की दूसरी बटालियन में सेवारत थे। साल 2006 में उनकी बटालियन को कश्मीर के सीमावर्ती कुपवाड़ा जिले में तैनात किया गया था, जहां वे आतंकवाद प्रभावित क्षेत्र में अभियान चला रहे थे।
19 मार्च 2007 को गोपनीय सूचना मिली कि कुपवाड़ा की लोलाब घाटी में कुछ आतंकवादी छिपे हुए हैं। भारी हिमपात के बावजूद, रात में ही ऑपरेशन शुरू करने का फैसला लिया गया। कैप्टन नायर के नेतृत्व में कमांडो टुकड़ी ने संदिग्ध आतंकी ठिकाने को घेर लिया।
20 मार्च 2007 की सुबह 3:50 बजे, घने अंधेरे और बर्फबारी का फायदा उठाकर चार आतंकवादियों ने अंधाधुंध गोलीबारी करते हुए घेरा तोड़ने की कोशिश की। इसके बाद शुरू हुई भीषण मुठभेड़ में लांस नायक भवन सिंह ने अदम्य साहस, दृढ़ संकल्प और वीरता का परिचय दिया। इस लड़ाई में उन्होंने अपने प्राणों का सर्वोच्च बलिदान दिया। उनकी शौर्य गाथा के सम्मान में उन्हें मरणोपरांत “शौर्य चक्र” से नवाजा गया।
आज उनके बलिदान को याद करें, उनके शौर्य को सलाम करें।

Lance Naik Bhavan Singh was a proud son of Simayal village in the Berinag tehsil of Pithoragarh district, Uttarakhand. He served with distinction in the 2nd Battalion of the Indian Army’s esteemed Parachute Regiment. In 2006, his battalion was deployed to the border district of Kupwara in Kashmir, a region grappling with the challenges of terrorism.
On March 19, 2007, credible intelligence reached the battalion about terrorists hiding in the Lolab Valley of Kupwara. Despite relentless heavy snowfall, the decision was made to launch an operation that very night. Under the leadership of Captain Nair, a commando team surrounded the suspected terrorist hideout.
At 3:50 AM on March 20, 2007, taking advantage of the pitch darkness and snowfall, four terrorists opened indiscriminate fire and attempted to break the cordon. What followed was a fierce encounter. In this intense battle, Lance Naik Bhavan Singh displayed extraordinary courage, unwavering resolve, and gallantry, ultimately laying down his life in the line of duty. For his bravery, he was posthumously awarded the “Shaurya Chakra.”
Today, let us remember his sacrifice and salute his valor.
